Youth Peace Leaders

The Vision: The Youth Peace Leaders Project is being developed in order to make a crucial contribution to urgent challenges faced by our community.  It recognizes that the potential of youth and the conflicts they experience are linked with emerging global conflicts.  The need for unifying dialogue between people of different cultures, beliefs and perspectives is glaringly evident as we watch what is happening in the world today.  Our youth face the daunting challenge of creating a healthier and more tolerant world, starting here at home in the Peel community.  This project is one catalyst to bring out the best of our youth, creating leaders with the capacity to bridge gaps, create dialogue and heal relationships.

This project will make a crucial contribution to urgent challenges faced by our community.  It recognizes that the potential of youth and the conflicts they experience are linked with emerging global conflicts.  The need for unifying dialogue between people of different cultures, beliefs and perspectives is glaringly evident as we watch what is happening in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world.  Our youth face the daunting challenge of creating a healthier and more tolerant world, starting here at home in the Peel community.  This project is one catalyst to bring out the best of our youth, creating leaders with the capacity to bridge gaps, create dialogue and heal relationships. Specifically, this project:

1) Helps fill a large gap for positive role models and methods for resolving conflict

2) Helps meet a need to restore empowerment of youth and increae their involvement with the community

3) Builds conflict management skills with focused, expert training. And it ensures these skills are ingrained by providing mentor and case management support that allows real-life utilization of the skills.

4) Helps to resolve numerous specific conflicts and initiate dialogue on a range of problems within the community through the mediations and dialogue processes run by the youth.
